Ok its a 2000 johnson 150 ocean pro, the tach went out, I had the rectifier ect. checked by my local marine shop, they said everything was fine that my tach was bad so, I already have the system check tach, so I ordered a new one.

If the engine shifts fine with no issues then you need to check the shift cable adjustment and control.
